Highlights from the David and Carol Farmer Archive

The following online exhibit is comprised of selections from the David and Carol Farmer Archive at the Lunder Research Center for the Taos Society of Artists, located at the Couse-Sharp Historic Site in Taos, New Mexico.

A historian and scholar of rare books, Dr. David Farmer and his wife, the artist and scholar Carol Farmer, live currently in the Santa Fe area. Their archive, donated to The Lunder Research Center, contains a wide range of print ephemera and texts, most of which focus on the cultures and art of the Southwest.

The selections for this exhibit, which center around tourism and the commodifications of Native cultures in New Mexico and Arizona, constitute just a small sampling of the work contained within the Farmer Archive.

This online exhibit was compiled, research, and written by CSHS Summer 2021-2022 intern, Olivia von Gries, a doctoral student in Art History at the University of Oklahoma.
