Sharp's inscription: "A very important man to his tribe- Several diplomatic trips to Washington over complicated affairs- President Grant gave him the medal... Sioux - At Pine Ridge, S.D. and other agencies always in trouble with Gov'mt.- Obstreperous.- Army officer, replacing an agent said to me.- If the Lord Jesus Christ came to Pine Ridge Agency, in three weeks they would file charges against him and prove(underlined) it! Only a few malcontents, but they were clever propogandists"
