Sharp's inscription: "Old Woman Bear - Cheyenne Medicine Chief- Painted at Lame Deer, Mont. 1905 has earth paint on face & hair- His "medicine" is in the little bag on necklace- "Medicine" is always spiritual- Medicine men are the equivalent of our priests, - leaders, advisors & friend- Some wield as great influence (or more) as the chiefs- and one of the best Indian portraits I have painted"
