Sharp's inscription: "Apaches- (Studio Visitors) Apaches, Utes, Pueblos from along the Rio Grande, others from Oklahoma and the north came to Taos for the big "Fiesta" last of Sept. "Bawling Deer" brought the Apaches to studio. They went right up to the easel to see what I was painting of him. Quick pencil sketches gave me the unconscious grouping, pose and interest- Then later, all (underlined) posed at one time for the painting"
